Midnight participated in the Theatre Showcase again, featuring 16 or so different local theatre companies presenting 20 minute segments of work. Most of it are pieces from full length shows they've just done or are coming up. And again, Midnight offered a new short play. (Hanrahan figures it's just 20 minutes, a scene, I can write that anytime. 2025 was the only time a new Hanrahan script wasn't offered, instead a section of ST. NICHOLAS, about to open at Greenfinch, was performed.)
So CRITICS premiered. Joe recruited Kelly Howe to play one critic (speaking for Joe and his opinions, actually) while Joe did the other critic. Joe was mired in a worse-than-usual depth of disdain for local theatre and theatre in general, and this did get some things away from if not off his chest. So he was a bit anxious that this little show might result in some disdain from theatre types.
But the crowd seemed to get it, and like it. Joe received a lot of encouraging words, and a few wry comments from colleagues. Kelly did a fabulous job, and Midnight's presentation was quick and fun.
