The Midnight Company will present Abby Mann's stunning historical drama JUDGEMENT AT NUREMBERG in the Lee Auditorium of the Missouri History Museum in Forest Park, April 25 through April 29, 2018, with 8pm performances Wednesday through Saturday, and 2pm matinees Saturday and Sunday. 
Tickets will be $20 ($15 for MHS members) and will go on sale next year through the Missouri History Museum.

JUDGMENT AT NUREMBERG depicts the second wave of Post World War II trials at Nuremberg, as influential judges who cooperated with the Nazis, including the character Ernst Janning, portrayed as one of the most eminent German legal minds of the pre war era, face a military tribunal.

Originally produced on television in 1957, made into an Academy Award-winning film in 1961, then adapted for the stage, premiering on Broadway in 2001, JUDGMENT AT NUREMBERG not only brought some of the worst Nazi atrocities to public attention, but has become one of the twentieth century’s most important records of the Holocaust.  In the play, Mann’s compassion strikes at the heart of human suffering, and remains a play that unfortunately is as potent and relevant as ever.  The play’s achievement has been to reaffirm humanity and justice in the wake of unspeakable evil.

Newsweek called the play “devastating…a magnificent re-enactment of the seminal trials of the modern era”; the New York Herald News cited “the exploration of how and when any citizen’s passive tolerance of government evil becomes, in effect, complicity that gives JUDGMENT AT NUREMBERG timeliness and relevance,” and the Chicago Sun-Times called it “incisive, blistering, thought-provoking…cries out powerfully to our own time in countless ways.”

Ellie Schwetye will direct JUDGMENT AT NUREMBERG.  For The Midnight Company, Ellie previously directed LITTLE THING BIG THING in January, 2017.  For her company, Slightly Askew Theatre Ensemble, and other groups, Ellie has directed several productions which have resulted in St. Louis Theatre Critics Circle awards and nominations for Best Director and Best Ensemble. For West End Players in February, 2018, she will direct SILENT SKY.

The Midnight Company has been presenting new and challenging work in St. Louis for 20 years.  In 2017, their productions have included LITTLE THING BIG THING, and original scripts of (T)RUMPLESTILTSKIN at The Fringe’s Five-Fifths, TONIGHT’S SPECIAL at The Theatre Crawl, and THE EVEREST GAME at The St. Louis Fringe; Festival.  In 2009, Midnight presented GIVE ‘EM HELL HARRY at the Missouri History Museum.

The Missouri History Museum has been active in the St. Louis community since 1866. Founding members established the organization “for the purpose of saving from oblivion the early history of the city and state.” Today, the Missouri Historical Society serves as the confluence of historical perspectives and contemporary issues.
